Old-line Republican warns 'something's in the works' to trigger a police state

Muriel Kane

Friday July 20, 2007

Thom Hartmann began his program on Thursday by reading from a new Executive Order which allows the government to seize the assets of anyone who interferes with its Iraq policies.
He then introduced old-line conservative Paul Craig Roberts -- a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan who has recently become known for his strong opposition to the Bush administration and the Iraq War -- by quoting the "strong words" which open Roberts'
latest column: "Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran."

"I don't actually think they're very strong," said Roberts of his words. "I get a lot of flak that they're understated and the situation is worse than I say. ... When Bush exercises this authority [under the new Executive Order] ... there's no check to it. It doesn't have to be ratified by Congress. The people who bear the brunt of these dictatorial police state actions have no recourse to the judiciary. So it really is a form of total, absolute, one-man rule. ... The American people don't really understand the danger that they face."

Cheney's Energy task force EXPOSED

Finally, we learn who was involved in the energy task force. I know you'll be shocked *SHOCKED* to learn that oil and gas CEOs, Kenny-boy Lay, and other high-powered Republicans and election contributors comprised most of the members.

Were any alternative energy notables consulted? Check it out.

E-voting bill: HR811

From Rob at OpEdNews.com:

A group of election integrity activists from PA and NJ went to a Rush Holt Town meeting. They asked him about his e-voting bill HR 811, and he admitted that the machine and software companies had won.

Nine Dems, all men, Stood with Bush

These nine Democrats voted against the bill to bring the troops home--because they agree with Bush:

John Barrow D-GA-12th
Dan Boren D-OK-2nd
Christopher Carney D-PA-10th
Brad Ellsworth D-IN-8th
Tim Holden D-PA-17th
Jim Marshall D-GA-8th
Jim Matheson D-UT-2nd
Vic Snyder D-AR-2nd
Gene Taylor D-MS-4th

What motivates each man's vote?

-Fear of losing the next election?
-True conviction that we can still "win" in Iraq? (And what is their reasoning, exactly?)

I'm going to find out.

Freaking News - President Bush commutes prison sentence for Lewis 'Scooter' Libby

>> Freaking News - President Bush commutes prison sentence for Lewis
'Scooter' Libby<<

ARGH!!!! " . . . And equal justice for all." Bah! Bush and Gonzales
have turned this on its head. Together they have murdered the justice
system. Lady Justice is in a coma in Walter Reed Hospital where she will
most likely expire.

Compare Libby's crimes to Martha Stewart's. >>Implementing Cheney's
agenda of retribution against a whistleblower who exposed one of the
biggest lies behind the war by outing his wife from the CIA--a
treasonous crime.<<
versus the crime of >>insider trading<<.

Which person should pay the larger penalty?

How will Libby learn from his mistake if he doesn't even serve time?

http://www.votetoimpeach.org/

Even freakin' Paris Hilton served time.

No Justice, No Peace

Bush just commuted Scooter's sentence.
Once again, there is one America for the elite, the wealthy, the well-connected, and another America for the rest of us.

Meet the Press this morning

Sen Patrick Leahey appeared on Meet the Press this morning.
Bush says he is not involved in the US Attourney scandal. So where does Executive Privilege come in?

Will they hold the Pres, etc, in contempt of Congress? It has to be voted on by the Congress.

The most critical members of the politicization of the Justice Department are former prosecutors.

The President offered up several people for interview, but under too many conditions: they would be intervewed behind closed doors by only a select group of officials, not the whole committee'; not under oath, no transcript, and Congress would not be allowed to them again.

White House stated they lost several million emails. Leahey knows, and stated"You can't erase emails."

Now they have found them. Why haven't they turned them over yet? Well, they're looking at them.

With regard to interviewing members of the Executive branch, Leahey is even offering to give them the questions ahead of time!

Now what--now that the Executive branch has invoked Executive Privilege? The next step is to determine whether Executive privilege claim is legit. It appears it is not.

If not, Congress will vote to decide whether to hold the White House in contempt of Congress.

On Justice John Roberts: Leahey voted to confirm him. He voted to confirm Roberts because he didn't want him to be confirmed on a party line vote. Leahey is extraordinarily disappointed on how they threw out Brown v. Board of Education so cavalierly.
