Things to do when you have lost your wallet
Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer
to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A
corporate Attorney sent the following out to the employees in his
company.
1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO
ID REQUIRED."
2 When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card Accounts,
DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead,
just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the
rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as
it passes through all the check processing channels won't have
access to it.
3.. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home
Phone. If you have a POBox use that instead of your home address.
If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your
SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is
necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.
4.. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do
both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what
you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone
numbers to Call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I
also carry a Photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or
abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed
on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number, credit
cards.
> Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my
Wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(S) ordered
an Expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit
card, had A credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer,
received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record
information online, and more. But here's some critical information
to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:
5.. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards
immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your
card Numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you
can find them.
6.. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your
credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit Providers
you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an Investigation
(if there ever is one).
But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even
thought to do this.)
7.. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations Immediately
to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social
Security fraud line number. I had never heard of doing that until
advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit
was made over The Internet in my name. The alert means any company
that checks your Credit knows your information was stolen, and they
have to contact you by Phone to authorize new credit.
By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the
theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the
Credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I
knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional
damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this
weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead
in their tracks.
Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your
wallet, if it has been stolen:

This Week's HORROR Story
Just wondering what your thoughts are about the passage of the extension of warrantless surveillance, voted on by both Repubs and Dems.
I feel betrayed. Oh sure, I know why they did it. Repubs and the administration told 'em that a terrorist strike is coming and the Dems figured if they voted against it, we'd all scream at them, and they'd lose their seats.
Take a DEEEEEEP Cleansing Breath. Meditate.
I have to remind myself:
We, you and I, have the power to end This American Nightmare--if we remember
and acknowledge that we have the power to do so. And we must act on it.
AND
They are afraid of *us*--we, the people of the United States. Americans.
Bush and Cheney call the Constitution irrelevant!?
I have no religion to speak of. It has no name; it does not have an institution-- no brick-and-mortar storefront, no teaming masses willing to tithe 20% to God's front-man: that preacher in his Caddy.
Did you notice that the first two goals were Justice and Peace (Tranquility--what is more peaceful than Tranquility?) JUSTICE FIRST!We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
To paraphrase Michael Moore, "Dude, where is that 'more perfect union' ?? "
It took us over 200 years to build, improve and nurture, but just a few years for it to disappear. I would never have guessed that our democratic condition was ephemeral.

Bush's Executive Order Puts U.S. on Escalation Path with Syria and Iran
Kucinich Blasts Bush Executive Order on Lebanon
August 4, 2007 (LPAC)--An executive order that President Bush issued on Thursday holds that anyone deemed to be undermining "Lebanon's legitimate and democratically elected government or democratic institutions..." constitutes "an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."
The order, which freezes the assets of any person determined to be such a threat, is aimed at Syria, which the Bush Administration claims is trying to retake control of Lebanon.Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) rightly charged, yesterday, that the order is "reckless and dangerous" and "would further hurt the United States' standing in the world." Kucinich noted that the French are trying to organize a national unity government in Lebanon, and that Syria is on record supporting that effort.
"The Bush Administration is trying to block national unity and continue with its strategy to destabilize the region by targeting Syria and Iran, instead of seeking a diplomatic resolution. The administration is using the same rhetoric and political posturing that led to the unjustified war against Iraq" and is "putting the United States on a path of escalation with both Syria and Iran," he said.

Kerfuffle on the House Floor!! Kerfuffle alert!!
Just tuned in to C-SPAN to observe much unhappiness on the floor.
Republicans' computer displays are not working properly. They were told that they could use any of the functioning computers to check their votes. Steny Hoyer is suggesting that they vacate the vote (to adjourn for the day, proposed by Heather Wilson).
The engineers are working on fixing the system.
The Repubs are pissed, David Dreier in particular.
Hoyer suggests that they suspend until the system is fixed, which would cause a delay.
FISA issue and funding the Minnesota bridge are to be considered later today. Hoyer proposes to fund the bridge replacement first .
Joe Barton showed up and suggested that the minority leader show the Repub total to the majority leader and the Majority Leader would check the number that was on his computer display. If the two numbers match, they would accept the vote.
Then Boehner shows up, basically overruled the idea on the floor, said they would suspend the vote and wait for the computers to be fixed.
The dispute on agriculture funding bill last night seems to have soured the Repubs attitude. They're petulantly dealing with the business of the day because the Rs walked off the floor the nightbefore. Rs made an effort to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving food stamps and welfare benefits. Repubs won the vote, they claim. They say that the Dems changed the vote to ensure that immigrants would continue to receive the benefits."
So say the Repubs. The spin is the bill takes medicare benefits away from the elderly and gives the benefits to illegal immigrants. (Lou Dobbs will be shouting about this one.)
Dude, what is wrong with Marsh Blackburn's face? It looks like she has a reverse raccoon mask. I'm just sayin.' She is saying that the bill gives priority to non-citizens over American citizens.
Obey caused the House to be shut down for four hours on Tuesday?
Repubs are saying the Dems have an imperial tone. ANd that the vote was cheated on. Dems are saying that amendments were out of order, Gingrey on Tuesday introduced them.
I don't have the full picture, I just see what the angry Repubs are saying.
EWWWW it's JEB. I went to high school with him.
Dems cut Medicare to seniors, [laced a tax on every non-government insurance plan so that immigrants could get food stamps and housing benefits.
Seems to me that everyone should get the same benefits, citizens and non-citizens. We're all humans. The system is broken. It was before the vote. It still is after the vote.
I would like to think that the Dems have a plan and a good reason for doing what they did.
All this speechifying took place at 10:20am this morning.
Senior's out-of-pocket costs may double.
Bilbray--Dems broke the rles, bend over backwards to ensure that "illegals" (sic) get benefits.
Taxpayers dollars should not go to "illegals." (sic) This guy is still calling immigrants "aliens."
Mike Pence discussed a vote a few years ago when run by Republicans, a vote held open for 3 hours for Medicare benefits until it won.
Apparently last night, a vote on funding welfare benefits was closed. At the time that the gavel fell, the Repubs won the vote. They say the vote was reopened.
Have we reached a point where we see the Dems have had effing ENOUGH!! of the White House manipulating rules the way they want, so that they don't have to testify; ignorning the rule of law.
Do we see now the Dems using the powers that they have to send a message? How do you like THEM apples.
Is that what is going on?
